Planting & Care Guide
Position: Prefers partial shade, particularly in warmer climates, though it can tolerate full sun in cooler regions. It thrives in sheltered spots, protected from strong winds that could damage its delicate flowers.
Soil: Best in well-drained, acidic soil, rich in organic matter. Azaleas prefer slightly acidic conditions and benefit from consistent moisture throughout the growing season.
Watering: Water regularly when newly planted, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged. Once established, Azalea obtusum ‘Pink Jane’ is somewhat drought-tolerant but will benefit from supplemental watering during dry spells.
Maintenance:
- Deadhead spent flowers to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage new blooms.
- Prune lightly after flowering to preserve its compact shape and remove any dead or damaged wood.
- Mulch around the base to help retain moisture and protect the roots during colder weather.
Perfect Plant Combinations
Azalea obtusum ‘Pink Jane’ pairs beautifully with other spring-blooming shrubs like Rhododendrons, Camellias, or Magnolias, where the soft pink flowers provide a gentle contrast against richer hues. It also works wonderfully alongside low-growing perennials like Heuchera or Hostas, whose foliage complements the delicate pink blooms. For a romantic touch, combine with Bleeding Heart (Dicentra) or Primroses to enhance the soft, pastel palette in the garden
