Chaenomeles speciosa Pink Storm, commonly known as Pink Storm Quince, is a vibrant and versatile shrub that adds beauty, wildlife value, and culinary potential to gardens in the UK. With its stunning flowers, attractive fruit, and hardy nature, it is a valuable addition to various landscapes. By providing the right growing conditions and care, gardeners can enjoy the many rewards this unique shrub has to offer.

  • Leaves: Pink Storm features glossy, dark green leaves that provide a lush backdrop for the stunning flowers. The leaves are serrated and ovate, typically measuring 5-10 cm long. In autumn, the leaves may turn a rich yellow, adding seasonal interest to the landscape.
  • Flower Color: is particularly noted for its striking double flowers that bloom in early spring. The flowers are a soft, delicate pink, which can create a lovely contrast against the green foliage. The flowering period generally lasts from March to May, attracting various pollinators such as bees and butterflies with its abundant blooms.
  • Quinces: After flowering, the shrub produces small, round fruit that is yellow-green and can be used for culinary purposes. The fruit is not typically consumed raw due to its tartness but can be used in jams, jellies, and cooking. The fruit typically ripens in late summer to early autumn, providing additional interest in the garden.
  • Height and Spread: Pink Storm can grow to a height of about 1-1.5 meters (3-5 feet) and has a similar spread, making it suitable for smaller gardens or as part of a mixed border

Pink Storm Quince prefers well-drained soil but can tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, or clay soils. This cultivar thrives best in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. However, it can also tolerate partial shade, which may lead to a less vigorous flowering display. Pruning is generally minimal but can be done after flowering to shape the shrub and remove any dead or damaged branches. This is best done in late spring or early summer.
