Buxus Sempervirens

Boxwood Hedging

Box Hedging (Buxus sempervirens) – Classic Evergreen Hedge for Elegant Landscapes

Box Hedging (Buxus sempervirens) in a 50-60cm, 7.5-litre pot is a premium choice for creating instant structure, definition, and year-round greenery in any garden. With its dense, glossy foliage and slow-growing, compact nature, this traditional hedging plant is ideal for formal borders, pathways, topiary, and garden edging. Highly versatile and low-maintenance, it suits both modern and classic landscapes, adding timeless beauty and structure to outdoor spaces.

Seasonal Beauty & Growth

  • Spring: Fresh new growth emerges in bright green, enhancing the hedge’s vibrancy.
  • Summer: Deep, rich evergreen foliage provides structure and acts as a lush backdrop.
  • Autumn: Retains its dense, dark green leaves, offering a stunning contrast to seasonal plants.
  • Winter: Remains evergreen and structured, ensuring visual interest throughout colder months.

Structure & Form

  • Height & Spread: Arrives at 50-60cm in height, with potential to grow up to 1.5m+ if left untrimmed.
  • Dense & Compact: Small, glossy oval-shaped leaves form a thick, uniform hedge perfect for neat borders.
  • Slow-Growing: Naturally grows at a manageable rate, making it easy to shape and maintain.
  • Evergreen Foliage: Provides consistent color and structure all year round.

Perfect for Various Landscapes

  • Low Formal Hedges – Ideal for pathway borders, garden edging, and defining flower beds.
  • Topiary & Ornamental Shapes – Easily shaped into balls, cones, or intricate geometric forms.
  • Traditional & Contemporary Gardens – Complements classic landscapes and modern minimalist designs.
  • Container Planting – Thrives in pots or planters, making it ideal for patios, balconies, and entrances.
  • Maze & Knot Gardens – Excellent for creating intricate hedge designs and structured layouts.

Growing Conditions & Care

  • Position: Thrives in full sun to partial shade, performing best in well-lit areas.
  • Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soil, with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy, tolerating cold winters and drought conditions once established.
  • Maintenance: Requires occasional pruning, ideally once or twice a year, to maintain shape and encourage dense growth.
  • Watering: Regular watering is needed until established, after which it becomes drought-resistant.
  • Feeding: Benefits from slow-release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy, vibrant foliage.
