Weeping Birch

Most birches are characterised by distinctive peeling bark which has a variety of textures and shades of colour, the appearance of the bark often is the feature that gives the species its common names. 

Birch have light green leaves that are roughly triangular in shape with single or double serrated edges turning bright yellow in early autumn before falling off in late autumn/winter and coming back the following spring. It has catkins that appear from April to May.

Betula Pendula Youngii also known as Weeping Birch is an elegant medium-sized deciduous tree with slender pendulous branches, a beauitful variety that is a favourite for the smaller garden, the weeping head can easily be trained, it has a natural compact head with the branches sweeing the floor. The winning feature as we know is the fabulous, white peeling bark on the trunk becoming black and rugged at base.The twigs are slender and cloaked in green leaves are roughly triangular with doubly serrate margins and turn yellow in autumn before they fall. They grow best in well drained but moist soil and thy thrive well in full sun or partial shade.
