Photinia Robusta Compacta 1/4 Std 7 Litre Pot

Compacta, as it's name implies, is a more compact growing form.  It has the same red new growth flushes, but the leaves are a little smaller and it grows much slower. This photinia has been formed as a clipped head on top of a 40/50cm clear stem. We try and match them as best we can in pairs.

Photinia Robusta

Christmas Red Berry Dwarf

Photinia are evergreen shrubs commonly found in woodlands. They have alternate, lance-shaped leaves which are mid green in colour. Evergreen leaves are glossy and have a bright red sometimes pink colour when young.

Photinia Red Robin have bright red new growth that matures to green with age. Photinia have small five-petalled, cup-shaped flowers which are followed by spherical fruits which are usually red in colour. Red Robin are best planted in a shrub border or around a garden as a hedge. They enjoy fertile, well-drained soil and full or partial sun.

The Photinia Robusta Compacta is a superb choice for those seeking a striking and low-maintenance addition to their garden. Renowned for its dense foliage and compact growth habit, this shrub features an upright form with rich, glossy leaves that exhibit a vibrant red hue in spring, transitioning to a deep green as the seasons progress. Its compact and well-defined shape adds a touch of sophistication and structure to your outdoor space.

Photinia Robusta Compacta is an ideal choice for those looking to add a touch of elegance and structure to their garden with minimal effort. Its evergreen nature and seasonal blooms make it a standout feature, perfect for enhancing the beauty of your outdoor space.

Where to Position Your Photinia Robusta Compacta

The Photinia Robusta Compacta thrives in sunny locations, where its foliage can fully display its rich colours. It performs best in well-drained, fertile soil to prevent waterlogging, which can adversely affect root health. Regular watering is essential, particularly during dry spells, to maintain its lush appearance and overall health. For the most vibrant leaf colour and optimal growth, full sunlight is ideal.

Growth and Pruning

This compact shrub typically grows to a height of around 3-4 feet, making it suitable for smaller garden spaces or as part of a larger landscape design. It produces clusters of small, white, five-petalled flowers in late spring, adding seasonal interest to its attractive foliage. To maintain its tidy shape and encourage dense growth, regular pruning is recommended. Trim the shrub to remove any dead or damaged branches and to refine its form. A thorough trim in late winter or early spring, along with occasional touch-ups, will help keep it looking its best.
