Hydrangea are deciduous shrubs and climbers. They are grown for their beautiful flowers that last throughout the Summer and Autumn. Hydrangea leaves are narrowly ovate and change colour through Autumn from green to orange-brown. Hydrangea prefer to be in partial shade and thrive best in fertile well-drained soil.
Annabelle' hydrangeas are famous for their massive, snowball-like flower clusters that can grow up to 30 cm in diameter. These large, dome-shaped blooms are made up of many small, creamy white flowers that create a striking display in the garden. Annabelle' blooms from early summer (June) and continues through to late summer (August to September). This long blooming period ensures several months of beautiful color and adds continuous interest to your garden. The flower heads start as a soft lime-green, transition to bright white during peak bloom, and then fade back to a light green as they age, providing subtle color changes through the season. Height can reach 1.5m
Hydrangea Annabelle grows well in full sun or partial shade, making it versatile enough for different garden spots. However, it often performs best in partial shade, where it gets some sunlight but is protected from the heat of the day. Prefers rich, well-drained soils, it can tolerate a range of soil conditions, including clay or loamy soils, as long as they’re not waterlogged. Adding organic matter like compost can help boost its performance.
It is suitable for gardens in colder climates where many other hydrangeas might struggle. Even after harsh winters, it reliably blooms because it produces flowers on new wood (current season's growth). Because 'Annabelle' blooms on new wood, even if its stems die back in winter, the plant will still produce flowers the following year.
Hydrangea Annabelle are low maintenance, requiring very little attention once established. They don’t need frequent pruning, aside from removing dead stems or shaping the plant in early spring. this variety is generally pest-resistant and doesn’t suffer from many of the common diseases that affect other plants, making it an easy choice for novice and experienced gardeners alike.
