Euonymus fortunei Emerald n Gold

Spindle Emerald Gaiety

Euonymus Emerald and Gold is a bushy evergreen shrub. Has rounded, golden-edged, deep green leaves. Makes good ground cover and brightens up any border. Height 1m. Spread 1.5m. Requires full sun and well drained moist soil.

Euonymus requires full sun or part shade and thrives best in well-drained, moist soil.

Euonymus Emerald and Gold can be easily clipped to maintain shape, making it a great alternative to box as a compact hedging plant. Its height can reach up to 60-90cm, providing a colourful and low-maintenance option for your garden.

Euonymus Fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' is a charming evergreen shrub, noted for its striking green leaves with white edges that often take on a pink hue in colder months. Its compact growth and attractive variegation make it an excellent choice for hedging, ground cover, and adding year-round interest to your garden.

This versatile plant is perfect for creating a variety of shapes, from neat, formal hedges to decorative ground cover, and even climbing support if allowed to grow against a wall or trellis.

Where to Site Your Euonymus Fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety'

Euonymus Fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' thrives in both full sun and partial shade, making it highly adaptable to different light conditions. It prefers well-drained soils but can tolerate a wide range of soil types. Ensure the planting area has good drainage to prevent waterlogging. For the best colour and growth, position it in a well-lit location.

Growth and Pruning

Euonymus Fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' is ideal for creating low hedges, ground cover, or even as a climbing plant if supported. It grows steadily to a height of 2–3 feet with a similar spread. With a moderate growth rate, it adds approximately 10–20 cm per year. Regular pruning is recommended to maintain its shape and encourage dense foliage. Trim in late spring or early summer to shape your hedge or cover, with an optional second light trim in late summer to keep it looking its best.
