Osmanthus are evergreen shrubs or small trees which are grown for their flowers and foliage. Flowers are small, white (occasionally yellow or orange) and star-shaped. They are usually fragrant and are often followed by oval, blue-black fruits. The leaves of the Osmanthus sit in opposite pairs and have a lance-like shape.

Osmanthus require full sun and well-drained soil they also prefer to be sheltered as much as possible from cold winds. Osmanthus Burkwoodii are dense, slow-growing, large evergreen shrubs of rounded habit, to 3m, with dark green leaves and clusters of small, highly-scented white flowers, occasionally followed by a few black fruits

The Osmanthus Burkwoodii is a charming evergreen shrub known for its glossy, dark green foliage and sweetly scented white flowers. Its small, oval leaves provide year-round interest, while the clusters of fragrant blooms appear in spring, filling the garden with a delightful aroma. With its dense, bushy growth habit, Osmanthus burkwoodii makes an excellent choice for hedging, borders, or as a standalone feature plant, offering both beauty and privacy.

Where to Position Your Osmanthus Burkwoodii

Osmanthus Burkwoodii thrives best in full sun to partial shade. It should be planted in well-drained, fertile soil to support healthy growth and abundant flowering. This hardy shrub is adaptable to various soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, making it a versatile option for different garden settings. Regular watering, especially during dry spells, will help maintain its lush foliage and ensure healthy growth. It can tolerate urban pollution, making it suitable for city gardens.

Growth and Maintenance

Osmanthus Burkwoodii is valued for its slow to moderate growth rate and dense, bushy habit. To maintain its shape and encourage dense growth, light pruning can be done after flowering in late spring. This will help keep the shrub neat and well-shaped, preventing it from becoming leggy. It is generally minimal maintenance, requiring only occasional trimming to maintain its appearance and encourage a fuller form.
