Prunus laurocerasus ‘Etna’ – Compact Cherry Laurel with Rich New Growth Colour
Prunus laurocerasus ‘Etna’ is a popular compact cherry laurel, prized for its dense, bushy habit and attractive bronze-red new growth. As fresh leaves emerge in spring, they create a warm flush of colour that contrasts beautifully with the mature, glossy dark green foliage, adding depth and seasonal interest to the plant.
Forming a naturally neat and upright shrub, ‘Etna’ is ideal for low hedging, screening, and structured borders where a tidy, evergreen presence is needed. In spring, it produces upright clusters of small white flowers, which add a subtle decorative touch and attract pollinators.
Exceptionally hardy and adaptable, this variety thrives in sun or shade and tolerates a wide range of soils, including heavier clay. Its compact growth means it requires less pruning than traditional laurel, making it a practical and low-maintenance choice for both formal and informal gardens.
Reliable, versatile, and visually appealing throughout the year, Prunus ‘Etna’ is an excellent option for creating structure, privacy, and evergreen interest with added seasonal colour.
