Monarda

Monarda or Bergamot

Are beautiful clump forming perennials. They have lovely fragrant hairy foliage that smells even more when crushed as they release a fragrant oil that is used regularly in tea. You can crush the leaves and put them in boiling water to make a nice relaxing tea that is said to cure headaches and temperatures.

Whilst you enjoy thge unusual whorls of flowers from summer to autumn. They are definatley worth cutting and popping in a vase to enjoy inside.

Where to site your Monarda

These are perfect perennials for inviting insects into the garden, bees love their beautiful flowers. Best suited to middle of the border as the foliage isn't always the best

How to Grow and look after your Monarda

They like to be planted in sun or part shade in rich warm soils they don't tend to like the winter wet.
